My Secret Weapon Heading Into a Big Race

My Secret Weapon Heading Into a Big Race
Going into a big race, especially one like the upcoming Spartan World Championship, you might feel pretty anxious or nervous. It might start a week before or even minutes before the race, and it might feel or look different for different people, but it’s one of the most common things OCR athletes face going into an important race.
I don’t think there is any magic formula that works for everyone when it comes to calming nerves or anxiety, but I know what works best for me, and that is to replace those nervous feelings with confidence. But I don’t mean an unrealistic confidence that isn’t supported by fact. I mean real confidence that you have earned. But, how do you know it’s real? How do you know it’s earned and you can stand on that start line with it?…By having put in the work.
If you know you have prepared to the best of YOUR ability, put in your time, gone the extra mile (pun intended, haha) and have done all the little things to prepare, then you can stand on that start line with the utmost confidence. Real, earned confidence. Because now, the race can be about celebration. A celebration of all that work you have put in.
If it’s race day and you have prepared to the best of your ability, and you know you will give it your all in every single moment out there on the course, then you can stand on that start line and smile. Because today you know what you are bringing to the course and today is going to be a good day.
