Q & A
My first race was the Spartan Super race in Asheville, NC. The other trainer I work with had done races before and him and some of his clients were doing that race so I decided to join them and compete myself. I had no idea what to expect, but I had heard stories and it sounded like something I would enjoy. I missed my competitive sports days so I just wanted to go compete.
I've always been an extremely competitive person in everything I do. I always want to win and be better than the person competing against me. Being primarily a basketball player most my life and always being one of the shorter people on the court, gave me my "chip on the shoulder" mentality. I always felt underestimated and that's what drove me to be better. In OCR you usually can't just stroll in and immediately be at the top. So coming in and struggling at first and not being anywhere near the top lit a fire under me to work even harder and push myself more, because without it I won't reach my goals of being at the top.
I would love to run one in Greece. I have been to Greece once and it was an absolutely incredible experience and a beautiful country so I would love to go back to run a race.
Rebecca Hammond. In my first Elite race I ran, she ended up catching and passing me going into the spear throw. At that point I realized how elite of an athlete she was and the fact that she's also in Harvard Med. School and still able to compete as one of the best in the sport is truly incredible and an inspiration.
